11-year-old walking to help other kids

Have you heard about Zach Bonner? He's an 11-year-old kid from Florida walking to Washington DC to raise awareness about homeless kids. That's one heck of a summer project!

DisneyWorld Vacation

Had an awesome (though short) visit to DisneyWorld mid-April. Stayed at Port Orleans - Riverside with my almost-5-year-old son. We were close to the buses and had a 5 minute walk to the dining hall. We got good exercise!
Our four days broke down as follows: Monday - fly at 8am from NY, arrive FL around 11, arrive Resort around 12:30. Went to Animal Kingdom - cool safari - saw Giraffes, Lion, Elephants and lots of the littler guys; rode Kali rapids; and saw a Nemo show that I think will go to Broadway. Returned to hotel around 10pm.
Tuesday - wake at 6, hop on bus to Magic Kingdom - singing songs with the bus driver - "If You're Happy and You Know It..." and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" in JAPANESE! That set the tone for the whole day. Teddy loved the car track - a ride I never used to go on. Monsters Inc show was funny for both of us. He liked seeing the characters roaming around more than I anticipated he would. We went back to hotel around 3pm to rest, grab dinner and returned to Park for evening. It was open til 1am but we headed out before midnight.
We did some pin-trading with our previously-ordered supply from Ebay. Adds another interest to the experience.
Wednesday - we toured Hollywood Studios. Although it has Playhouse Disney characters and Power Rangers running around, it's not the best park for the five-year-old set. He LOVED the Toy Story ride but because it is new, the wait was too long for a kid to handle more than once. (Be sure to get a Fast Pass for this!)
Thursday - with just a partial day before going to the airport, we returned to the Magic Kingdom to get a second shot at our favorites. More auto track, Flying Dumbos and the Swiss Family Treehouse were highlights this day.

The Magic Kingdom Express was a wonderful plus for this adult - it let me focus on the kid, rather than the luggage or the ride. ALWAYS stay in the Park.

What's for dinner?

Suggested menu for the week...
M: Gramma's Chicken Divan - Chicken, broccoli or asparagus, cheese and cream soup
- yummy and easy. Leftovers work for lunch at the office.
T: Eat at the Ambulance Corps Meeting (but I'm supposed to cook...) Indian? Mexican? Italian?
BBQ?
W: Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad
T: Beef tenderloin steaks and whatever veggies the guy on the street is selling
F: Another Fire Dept gathering

First blog post

Wow - the pressure! It feels like my first blog should be really profound - for posterity. But I'm just testing. I hope you're not too let down.

I'm working to keep up with new technology and this is my first foray into blogging.

Topics I will post about include - my kid, of course!; EMS; cooking; direct marketing fundraising; homeless kids; family... Is the list eclectic or just plain nuts? Time will tell.
